Dear "Didaraw" I wrote ma some time ago and mentioned something about the receipt of $66.00 on the note. Maybe she didn't say anything about it. When I got the receipt, it made me feel as good as if it was a check for the same amount. Say I'm allowing you folks 50% on those potatoes. It's worth it to dig and market them. I heard you was at (there are about 8 words missing here) State Road. A couple of fellers and myself are layed off for a couple days till they start concreting. I'm going to get a motor, at least it's promised to me. They are going to work 8 hr. shifts. Three shifts and 24 hours--that's how I happen to get a motor. Clarence Bell is going to get one too. I fished about 2 cords driftwood out of the river and my neighbor Eugène Piantoni cut it up for me. He has a little gasoline saw. Coal is something almost unheard of. All they get here is hard coal at $24.00 per ton. I had my family to North Adams, Massachusetts last Sat. 8th. We went to the dentist, to the studio and a Woolsworth 5 & 10. North Adams is about three times as big Dubois. About all the business around here consists of power plants and paper mills. There is a chair factory in Readsboro. Nothing very exciting happens here, Oh the niggers shoot each other up once in a while. That's all. This is the spruce tree country. We are going to have a spruce tree for Xmas. Well, maybe I won't wait so long till I write again. Lou.
