Dear Mother and all,
Did you folks look for me last Sat night? Well the reason I did not come home then was because they did not pay here until yesterday. (Mon) so I thought I would wait and come home next Sat. There was no work here last Sat. And as it was a nice day I decided to do my washing, which I did.
There will only be about five days of work here out of a week, and as the idle day is quite likely to come on Saturday, why then I can come up on Friday evening next.
We haven't had much cold weather down here yet, to speak of. I am in the best of health and I hope this will find you folks all well.
I am shantying by myself now for some time as my buddy left me some time ago. His possessions are here yet. There is hardly any chance for an outsider to get work here, I found out that much. Hope Wesley finds work somewhere close home. (If he can) This is Monday evening about 10 P.M. (bedtime at that), and I have some beans on the stove cooking, so I can't go to bed until they are cooked. They're about cooked now.
I don't know if you people wrote to me or not, but I was at the P.O. on Sat night, (Jan 29), and there was nothing there so I don't suppose you people had written. Well, I don't know what else to write, but you can look for me up on Fri or Sat night, unless the weather is too extremely bad. Hoping this finds you all well, I remain, Your Son
